White Sands

Tuesday, September 27, 2005: Located around 20 miles outside Alamogordo is White Sands National Monument. The sands at White Sands are actually gypsum dust, carried down from the surrounding mountains. This is me on the Big Dune Nature Trail at around 3:45 in the afternoon. It was quite warm though the sand itself is always cool--one of the properties of gypsum sand.
