The Great Bear

The largest mound in Effigy Mounds National Monument, the Great Bear is located about a mile from the visitor center. This mound is 137 feet long and 70 feet wide, and barely fits within the frame of the camera. Animal-shaped mounds do not contain human remains; however, several of the nearby conical mounds were used for burial purposes.
