Amethyst Mining

Near Dorion, May 20: On Tuesday morning, we left Thunder Bay shortly after 8:45 and headed east on the Trans-Canada Highway. Our first stop was at Amethyst Mine Panorama, an amethyst mining operation around 40 km outside of Thunder Bay. After driving up a winding, steep dirt road, we were greeted by fierce winds and temperatures that were barely above freezing. Here is Lisa standing on top of a load of dirt filled with amethysts from the mine. I managed to find about five pounds of rocks that I wanted to keep, at $2.00 per pound.
