American Locks

Sault Sainte Marie, May 23: This is a view of the American locks as we departed after a tour of the upper St. Mary's River. We traveled through Lock #1, which is closest to the shore; the Gott was on its way through Lock #2, which can handle 1,000-foot freighters. There are a total of four locks on the American side, though only the first two are in active use. Travel through the American locks is free to all ships of all nationalities.
