Crazy Horse

Gaining in popularity in the Black Hills region of South Dakota is the Crazy Horse Memorial, a privately-funded, non-profit operation. Admission is $9.00 per person or $19.00 per carload, and the admission fees pay for continuing work on the sculpture, which has been a work in process since 1949. Sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski worked on the mountain until his death in 1982; now his family, as well as others, continue the work. There is a large visitor center which talks about the sculpture, as well as Native American history in the area. This picture was taken from the visitor center, which is a mile from the mountain itself, giving an idea of the immense scale of the sculpture. It's definitely worth a stop!
