Tate Britain

London; Monday, June 26, 2006: On my first morning in London, I was a bit dismayed to see that the skies were cloudy, the temperature was cool, and there was rain in the air. However, because I was in a hotel in a fairly decent area of town, I was able to brave the elements and go for a long walk in the morning. One of my stops was the Tate Britain, the less-famous sibling of the Tate Modern. The Tate Britain features traditional paintings and sculptures by British artists.

factoid

The flag of the United Kingdom is comprised of a blue field with the red cross of Saint George (patron saint of England) edged in white superimposed on the diagonal red cross of Saint Patrick (patron saint of Ireland), which is superimposed on the diagonal white cross of Saint Andrew (patron saint of Scotland). It is properly known as the Union Flag, but commonly called the Union Jack.
