London; Monday, June 26, 2006: After I had my fill of British art, I continued walking
from the Tate Britain along the Thames. I came upon the Victoria Tower Gardens park, and from there,
this view of Parliament.
The flag of the United Kingdom is
comprised of a blue field with the red cross of Saint George (patron saint of England)
edged in white superimposed on the diagonal red cross of Saint Patrick
(patron saint of Ireland), which is superimposed on the diagonal white cross of
Saint Andrew (patron saint of Scotland). It is properly known as the Union Flag,
but commonly called the Union Jack.
