Washington Monument Fines

Monday, March 5, 2007: My timing at the Washington Monument was great--at noon, a guided walk down the monument's stairs was offered, and I (and five other brave people) headed down the stairs with a Park Service ranger. This is a sign, left over from the days when the stairs were in common use, warning of fines for defacing the interior of the monument.
