Cartwheel Bay

Cartwheel Bay Heritage Preserve; Sunday, April 25, 2010:  Looking for something off the beaten track, I traveled to the Cartwheel Bay Heritage Preserve, located in northern Horry County, South Carolina. There are two "Carolina Bays" in this preserve, called Cartwheel Bay and Mossy Bay. These peculiar geological formations are oval in shape and are scattered throughout the southeast, and are all oriented more or less in the same direction. Shown here are some of the trees in the area of the preserve.
