Bluff Trail

Congaree National Park; Tuesday, April 27, 2010:  I was actually expecting a thunderstorm on my hiking day at Congaree, so I was a little conservative with the route that I chose. Fortunately, the thunderstorm didn't come while I was at the park, and I was able to hike along the bluff trail at the park, which went into a marginally higher area. One of the things that surprised me most about Congaree was that it was extremely flat. One of the rangers explained to me that even a difference of four inches of elevation can dramatically change the vegetation. The "bluff" is a couple of feet higher than the rest of the park, and the vegetation is completely different here.
