Fox Spring
Saturday, September 24, 2005: This little spring was my turnaround point while
hiking today. While the trip to this point wasn't particularly grueling, the hike back up
the mountain was difficult. It's not that I haven't gone up mountain trails before, but hiking at
a little more than 9000 feet can be somewhat tiring when you're more accustomed to the relative
flatness of Wisconsin, where elevations are in the 1000- to 2000-foot range. I found out pretty
quickly that my legs weren't tired, but my lungs were working pretty hard. My entire hike was
only a little more than two miles (one mile down, one mile up) but it took around 45 minutes,
not including the time for pictures and catching my breath!
