Solar Observatory

Tuesday, September 27, 2005: I had quite an adventure in the Alamogordo area today, and I started out at the National Solar Observatory in Sunspot, New Mexico. Unfortunately the visitor center was "closed for inventory" when I arrived, but there was a walking tour that went past the various solar telescopes. This is the Dunn Solar Telescope, built in 1969, and rising 136 feet above ground (and going 228 feet below).
