Iwakuni Castle

After we proceeded across the bridge, we took a cable car to the top of a nearby mountain to see Iwakuni Castle, a reconstruction of a castle that was originally built in 1608. Much as a town square or statue lends an American city its character, the castles lend many smaller Japanese cities some character. This particular castle was torn down in 1615 because of a feudal law, but was rebuilt in 1962.
