Devil's Tower

Devil's Tower National Monument; Wednesday, July 22, 2009:  After seven years, I finally made the return trip to Devil's Tower. It was a grueling four-hour drive from North Dakota, but it was well worth the effort. As expected, there were plenty of people in and around the park, but also as expected, I had a fair amount of solitude whenever I stayed off the main “Tower Trail” that everyone (and her baby stroller) uses. This is a view of Devil's Tower from the Red Beds trail—the same trail I hiked seven years ago. This time around, I brought adequate water and sunscreen, and I'm in much better shape than I was back then. That made all the difference in being able to enjoy the park.
